For the hospitality industry, events like this are not just about celebration they are a powerful reminder of the importance of nurturing talent, supporting careers, and investing in the future workforce.
A Celebrated Event in Oxford’s Culinary Calendar
The annual Guild of Chefs gala dinner is a highlight for Oxford’s hospitality community. Each year, it brings together chefs, employers, educators, and suppliers to celebrate achievements across the industry while supporting the next generation of talent.
The Guild’s annual gala dinner is a long-standing tradition, hosted each year at a different Oxford college or venue. In recent years, the event has taken place at St Edmund Hall (2026), Trinity College (2025), Saïd Business School (2024), and Keble College (2023) each venue adding its own unique character to the evening.
The evening also marks the culmination of key competitions, including Oxford’s Junior Chef of the Year and the OxFood Hero Award, recognising both emerging and established culinary professionals.
An Unforgettable Evening at Teddy Hall
What an incredible evening we shared at the City of Oxford Guild of Chefs Charity & Awards Dinner.
From the very first canapés to the final applause, the night was a true celebration of culinary talent, community, and generosity. The historic setting of Teddy Hall provided the perfect backdrop for an evening filled with exceptional food, warm hospitality, and shared passion for the industry.
Guests were welcomed with beautifully presented canapés, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience.
Celebrating Rising Culinary Talent
One of the standout moments of the evening was the recognition of this year’s Junior Chef competition winners.
Their stunning canapés showcased creativity, technical skill, and a clear passion for the craft. A special congratulations goes to Will Barker, crowned Oxford’s Junior Chef of 2026, whose work truly stood out among an incredibly strong field of talent.
Supporting young chefs is a vital part of the Guild’s mission, and it was inspiring to see the future of the industry on display.
For employers and recruiters alike, this level of emerging talent highlights the importance of creating opportunities, mentorship, and clear career pathways within hospitality.
Recognising Excellence: OxFood Hero 2026
The evening also celebrated this year’s OxFood Hero, Karol Kwiatkowski, whose nostalgic dish Janine’s Dumplings left a lasting impression on both judges and guests alike.
This award recognises chefs who demonstrate outstanding creativity, storytelling, and culinary expertise highlighting the depth of talent within the industry.
A Menu Crafted to Perfection
Perhaps most memorable of all was the beautifully curated menu, designed by Sam White, Director of Catering at St Edmund Hall, alongside his talented team of chefs.
Each dish reflected precision, creativity, and a deep respect for quality ingredients. The experience was elevated further by the exceptional front-of-house team, expertly led by Molly Higgins, whose professionalism and attention to detail ensured a seamless evening.
Their efforts were rightly recognised with a standing ovation an authentic reflection of the appreciation felt across the room.
Supporting Important Causes
Beyond the celebration of food and talent, the evening also made a meaningful impact.
Thanks to the generosity of guests, £2,005 was raised through the raffle, with funds being split between OOSO and World Central Kitchen, supporting their vital work within communities both locally and globally.
